This upright, widefield microscope is best for relatively large samples that need a low magnification (0.5x up to approximately 20x) combined with high resolution and continuous zoom capability. For example, bright field and/or fluorescent images of C. elegans, zebra fish and rodent embryos, rodent eyes and whole rodent brain slices can be done. Single images are often comparable to mosaic images created on other microscopes using 10x or 20x lens but can be done much faster. Time lapse, manual z-stacks and mosaics are also possible. Detector / Cameras: Nikon DS-Ri1 color Nikon DS-Qi1Mc black and white Imaging Modes: Fluorescence Transmitted and relected white light Fluorescence Filters: (excitation/emission) UV/Blue (for blue dyes such as DAPI and Hoechst) Blue/Green (for green labels such as Cy-2 and FITC-like dyes) Green/Red ( for Cy-3, Texas Red, or Rhodamine-like dyes) Red/deep red ( for Cy-5 or TO-PRO-3 like dyes) Objective Lenses: 0.5x Plan Apo / 0.05 NA air 2x Plan Fluor / 0.2 NA air 5x Plan Fluor / 0.5 NA air Charges: $46.00 / hour Note: To use the microscope you must have an active iLab account and request access to the Cell Imaging Shared Resource in iLab. Reservations are made through our on-line iLab calendar. Contact Jenny to arrange training. Location: 704 Light Hall
